Westmoria Comitatus; Anglice Westmorland. From Blaeu's Atlas Major, in a Spanish edition, probably 1672, this engraved map has fine original hand colouring. The heavy quality paper is a little toned but otherwise a fine copy of this map. Spanish text verso. The margins are huge. Cartouche with putti holding sheep shears and loom shuttles. The scale of miles features a surveyor on horseback with two assistants with the measuring chain. Fine royal coat of arms heightened with gold and other shields of the gentry. Good quality original colouring picks out the features and towns.

As is often the case with these maps there are several original folds, one of which is strengthened, and the engraving reaches almost to an edge of the sheet where an old paper extension will make fitting it to a mount easier.
